TRIBUTE TO JEAN-CLAUDE CARRIÈRE

The IAP and its new director, François Bouchet, wish to pay tribute to Jean-Claude Carrière who was, during the 1980s, a “road companion” of the institut d'astrophysique de Paris (IAP).

This immense writer, scriptwriter and playwright kindly took an interest in astrophysics and visited the IAP very frequently. He prepared there the publication of “Conversations sur l'invisible” (Belfond editions) with Jean Audouze (then IAP's Director, presently emeritus researcher of CNRS) and Michel Cassé (CEA senior researcher, then associate researcher at the IAP). He contributed to setting up a cycle of multidisciplinary conferences at the IAP, and he took a very active part in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the institute in 1988. Later, in 1999, he illustrated the children's book “Petite Étoile” (Odile Jacob editions, in French), written by Élisabeth Vangioni (CNRS research engineer at the IAP) and Michel Cassé.

François Bouchet is happy and proud that IAP was able to count among its partners such an exceptional artist as Jean-Claude Carrière, and he wishes to revive this tradition of openness during his term as director starting this year.
