The 10th NEON Observing School
 
 

The tenth Neon Observing school (school at the telescope) will take place at: 
  Asiago Observatory (Italy) from Sept. 10 to 22, 2012


The principles are the same as in previous schools: introductory lectures on topics of general interest,  work in small groups, 
execution of a real research project,  presentation of the results at the end of the school.

Observations will be made with: - The Cima Ekar 1.82m  telescope for photometry and spectroscopy
-The Galileo 1.2m  Telescope  for spectroscopy

            Program (close to final):

Day 1 (Sunday Sept. 9): Arrival of the students
Day 2-4: Introductory lectures and preparation of the observations

Basics of telescope optics and image analysis (R. Hook, ESO)
Photometry (E. Iodice, Napoli)
  Spectroscopy (M. Dennefeld, IAP-Paris)
 

Introduction to reduction techniques (Tutors)


Night 3-8: Observations
Days 3-12:  Data reduction and analysis

Tutors: P. François,  J. Mendez, L. Morelli, A. Siviero, M. Valentini
 
Additional lectures are foreseen  during the rest of the school:
Archival data
Adaptive Optics
VLT and ELT instrumentation
The history and evolution of telescopes
European observing facilities
etc...

Day 13
(Friday, Sept. 21th): Presentation of the results; round table discussion on prospects in astrophysics
Day 14 (Sept. 22th): Departure
