Practical Information


Arrival

Sunday July 14th

Bus pick-up, to go to the Observatory:

First stop: at the airport, outside the arrival terminal, 18:30 (the Bus will wear a sign " Neon school" )
Second stop: downtown, SantaCruz de LaPalma, North Bus Stop (Avenida de los Indianos), 19:00
then drive to the Observatory, where diner will be served

(As a possible rescue, a car should also go up from the airport, after arrival of the  19:30 Binter flight)

Monday 15th

9:00 Short introduction (M. Dennefeld + LOC)
9:10 Telescopes and Imaging I (R. Hook)
10:40 Break
11:00 Photometry I (J. Falcon Barroso)

12:30 Lunch

14:30 Introduction to Spectroscopy (M. Dennefeld)
16:00 Break
16:30 Groups forming, and work with the tutors

19:00 (TBC) Diner

Tuesday 16th

9:00 Telescopes and Imaging II (R. Hook)
11:00 Photometry II (J. Falcon Barroso)

12:30 Lunch

Afternoon: Preparation of the observations

Diner

First night of observations: Group 1, and Group 2

Wednesday 17th

Preparation of the observations,
first data reduction
(Times to be defined with the tutors)

Second night of observations: Group 3, and Group 4

Thursday 18th

Preparation, and data reduction (continuing)

14:30 Visit of the Magic telescopes

Third night of observations (groups to be selected)

Friday 19th

Preparation, and data reduction (continuing)

14:30 Visit of telescopes (TBD)

Fourth night of observations (groups to be selected)

Saturday 20th

Preparation, and data reduction (continuing)

14:30 Visit of telescopes (TBD)

Spare night of observations (groups as needed)

Sunday 21th

15:30 Bus departure for Santa Cruz
~ 16:30 Installation in the hotel Galeon
 Free afternoon

19:30 Diner in local restaurant (will be announced later)

The program of the second week will be finalised while up on the mountain

Lectures, and data reduction during this second week will take place in the Mayantigo office in Santa Cruz

Lectures: Mornings, at 11:00
  Monday 22d: Cecilia Farina, the new WEAVE spectrograph for the WHT
  Tuesday 23d: Michel Dennefeld, Evolution of optical telescopes
  Wednesday 24th: Simon Tulloch, Detectors for Astronomy

Friday 26th whole day  is reserved for the presentation of the results, and discussion with the students (jobs, carriers, etc...)
