The main goal of the ESAs Euclid mission is to study the nature of Dark Energy by mapping a large part of the sky with high spatial resolution optical and NIR imaging and spectroscopy. As part of the calibration plan, Euclid will observe a number of deep fields covering close to 50 square degrees to ~40 times the nominal depth, reaching 26th magnitude in three near-infrared bands.
The Cosmic Dawn Survey initiative, is an effort coordinated from the Cosmic Dawn Center in Copenhagen, the IfA in Hawaii, and the IAP in Paris, to complement the Euclid Deep Fields that can be observed from Hawaii with deep MIR imaging from Spitzer Space Telescope (>6000h), optical imaging from Subaru/HSC (30 nights via a University of Hawaii large program), and spectroscopy from Keck. The combined dataset will have the wavelength coverage and sensitivity needed to construct unbiased, stellar-mass complete (M>M*) samples of galaxies to z>8 over an area 100 larger than any existing survey.
As the most massive galaxies trace the underlying dark matter distribution, this offers a unique opportunity to map the large-scale structure of the Universe on all relevant cosmic scales throughout the epoch of reionization.
I will review the current status of the survey, including some fresh results from COSMOS2020, one of the Cosmic Dawn Survey fields.
