« Gaia EDR3 accurate orbital parameters for Milky Way dwarfs: are most of them at first infall? »

Francois Hammer

The Gaia EDR3 has provided a considerable accuracy improvement for calculating the orbital energy and angular momentum of several tens of Milky Way dwarfs. Here we show that their total energy and angular momentum are much larger than that of K-giant stars, Sagittarius stream stars and globular clusters. This suggests that many dSphs are have recently infall into the Milky Way halo in a manner similar to the Magellanic Clouds. It calls into questions many ideas about the nature of dwarfs, e.g., their origins and whether or not they can match LCDM expectations.
