The SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey) APOGEE (Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment) survey is a high-resolution (R=22,500), near-infrared (1.5 – 1.7 micron) survey that aimed to build a chemical map of the Galaxy from observations of more than 700,000 stars in the Milky Way. Most of the APOGEE targets were red-giants. However, APOGEE has also observed a large number of M dwarfs. M dwarfs are important targets because, although they are the most abundant stellar class in the Galaxy, they have been one of the least studied stellar types due to the complexity of their spectra. Another important aspect is the connection with exoplanets, as M dwarfs are the most numerous hosts of Earth-size planets and precise stellar radii are crucial to determine planet radius discovered via transits. In this talk I will present results for stellar parameters and chemical abundances for M dwarfs using APOGEE spectra.
