Séminaire/Seminar Galaxies

« An Unprecedented View of Galaxies During the EoR with JWST »

The launch of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has led to the remarkable discovery of several hundred galaxies at z>9 in just one year. These initial detections offer a unique opportunity to statistically explore a redshift regime during the Epoch of Reionization (EoR) that was previously uncharted. During this seminar, I will present the most significant results from the first year of JWST on the detection of galaxies during the EoR, what this brings us, and the challenges we face in the coming years. I will focus particularly on the results from the JWST COSMOS-Web survey, the largest Cycle 1 JWST program, a vast contiguous 0.54 deg2 NIRCam observation conducted in four filters (F115W, F150W, F277W, and F444W). With only 50% of the observations (the remaining half is arriving next January), we have already detected several tens of galaxies at z>9, finding an excess of bright galaxies compared with models.
