«  Towards an unbiased, optimal inference with kinetic Sunyaev Zel'dovich measurements and forward modeling »

Upcoming CMB experiments with ever-increasing sensivity promise to turn kinematic and thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ and tSZ) effect into a powerful probe for not only astrophysics but also cosmology. The catch is they demand a much finer modeling of systematics. One source of systematics that has been ignored so far is that coming from the velocity reconstruction in kSZ-galaxy cross analyses. In this talk, I show that the forward modeling approach to galaxy clustering routinely allows for that, and introduce a velocity-marginalized likelihood for kSZ in this type of analysis. Then, I demonstrate how this likelihood yields an optimal and unbiased inference from kSZ measurements. Finally, I address how robust such an analysis is to the details of the physical data model in the forward modeling.
