« Black hole feedback on galaxies as an emergent phenomenon »

Hydrodynamical cosmological simulations of galaxy formation are increasingly able to follow the baryonic sector with rapidly improving physical fidelity. Comparatively simply models for AGN activity in these calculations are surprisingly successful in reproducing the quenching phenomenon in massive galaxies. I will focus on a number of recent results pertaining to the impact of supermassive black holes on the formation and evolution of galaxies, and how this compares to observations.
