At the end of this summer the Marie Curie Training network "Dark Universe
through Extragalactic Lensing" (DUEL)
will organise a two-week summer school focusing on cosmology and gravitational
lensing.
The school consists of 2 complementing modules.
- The first week features lectures in gravitational lensing and topics
relevant to lensing. The main emphasis of this week will be to provide
students a good understanding of weak and strong gravitational lensing, on
both theoretical and observational aspects. Adherent subjects that will be
covered include structure formation, CMB plus CMB lensing, statistical
methods in cosmology, and numerical simulations. Please have a look at the
"Speakers and Topic" section for the full list of topics.
- The second week has the goal to familiarise the students with the
techniques and problems of data reduction and shape measurement in weak
lensing. There will be lectures in the morning, and practical sessions in
the afternoon where students work with wide-field imaging data and go
through all steps of weak lensing analysis. Tools and techniques that will
be used are amongst others SExtractor, SkyMaker, Stuff, Mass reconstruction
and photometric redshifts. Computing resources will be provided by IAP.
It is possible to register for either one of the weeks, or both weeks. Note
however that there will be a limit of 25 participants for the second week for
practical reasons. The school is aimed at PhD students and junior postdocs.
Priority will be given to students.
More information will follow soon.
