The Institut d'astrophysique de Paris (IAP) is proud to
announce a new exhibition of six large images of the Universe on
the walls of the Luxembourg RER station in Paris. This
exhibition, which was designed in the framework of a unique
partnership beetween RATP and CNRS, will be visible until the
end of December 2009. |
To « see » the heavens, astronomers have constructed very large
digital cameras capable of capturing images containing hundreds of
millions of pixels. These images, destined for scientific analysis,
have in fact « astronomical » dimensions that no conventional medium
(books, magazines, movies, computer screens...) could fully reveal.
Two of these vast images are the result of work being carried out
by IAP researchers in collaboration with Service d'astrophysique du
CEA and the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT). The four other
images originates from well-know scientific institutions like NASA
or JPL.
The RER B Luxembourg station, with
large vaulted ceilings is a unique location to display these images.
IAP wishes to thanks FONDATION93/CCSTI de Seine-Saint-Denis and
RATP for their significant assitance in the realisation of this
project.
