These internships called "company internships" are meant for middle and high-school students (from 6th to 12th grade). They were created by the National Education Department and usually last from three to five days. They introduce young students to the professional world. These internships consist of discovering the various professions in astronomy and astrophysics. To this end, meetings are organized with lab members carrying out different institute activities. Students are also given the opportunity to do personal work at their own initiative.
Internships agreements are jointly, and mandatorily, drafted by the interns’ schools and the CNRS. To apply for an internship, please send a cover letter and a curriculum vita (CV) via regular mail to:
M. Gilles MISSONNIER
Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris
98bis boulevard Arago
Your cover letter must be handwritten by you, original and genuine (avoid letters found on the Internet for example).
Please provide the internship dates defined by your high school, if you wish to participate in group internships. For individual internships, please provide the dates you are available.
Please indicate an email address at which you can be reached.
In your CV, please indicate your date of birth, your class, your extra-curricular activities, books you’ve read, the contact you’ve had with astronomy, especially during school holidays, and the public lectures you may have attended.
Do not send any academic report card.
Applications must be prepared soon after the dates of the internship are announced by your high school. There are many applications for very few spots.
Once an application is accepted, an internship agreement is jointly, and mandatorily, drafted by the interns’ school and the CNRS.
Every year, a group internship is organised during the week preceding Christmas school break.
Other group internships will be organised during the current academic year, dates will depend on the number of applications. These internships are for french-speaking students only.
